Marc-James Manor Museum:  The Powers & James Collections

Many of these items will be auctioned on e-Bay, seller:  marc-jamesmanor.

This exhibit:

  • Comprised two collections of English Ceramics
dating from the mid 18th Century through the mid 19th Century.

  • Included a small display of Georgian Silver and period Sheffield Plate
    and period tabletop glass.

  • Was housed at Marc-James Manor in the Highland Heights District
    of Bellingham, Washington

A small quantity of silver and glass helped
to recreate a typical Georgian table setting,
although the exhibit focused on English Porcelain of the Period.
A comprehensive reference library,
housed in the Rudolph Weyerhaeuser Driscoll Room,
was available to students of English Ceramics of the Period.

The Sydney Powers Teapot collection was a 38-year effort to gather English porcelain and pottery teapots. No two pots were alike.
Many were extremely rare. Both porcelain and pottery teapots comprised the collection.

Many famous factories were represented as well as many obscure.
The earliest teapot in the collection was an impressive salt glazed teapot molded in the form of a camel and dated to C.1740.

The collection numbered over 300 teapots of the period.

The Marc-James Manor Derby collection was a 33-year effort to gather tabletop and decorative Chelsea- Derby, Derby and Crown Derby
from 1750 to the 1840’s. The earliest pieces in the Derby collection dated from 1753. There were over 650 pieces in the collection.

The collection ranged from common tableware, assembled tea and dinner services, to some rather important experimental pieces.

The Manor's collection also included a good representation of early 19th C. Blue & White Transferware.
These pieces were displayed in the Main Floor Library.
